In 1990, he began a comprehensive search for an ideal site for a vineyard, which would include the best combination of soil, aspect and climate, in order to fulfill his dream. After two years of research he acquired forty acres between Bellbrae and Moriac. Here the special nature of the terrain- low fertility and a vigour-restricting soil- produces small and concentrated fruit, and together with the cool maritime climate, has proven ideal for the creation of individual wines unique to this part of Victoria.
